‘An inexcusable loss for Chan Gailey and his staff.’

‘”It was just guys not being where they were supposed to be and you saw that,” Bills’ safety George Wilson said of the defense’s ability to stop the run. “I do not know how long that run was, but you saw the long run as a result. You cannot be inconsistent in your run fits and in your tackling when you are expected to be a good defense.”‘

‘”They all hurt, but I think the ones that are close, tight, back and forth – those are the ones that hurt the most when you do not come out on top,” said Fitzpatrick. “This one stings, especially right before the bye week.”‘

‘When the Bills cut the Titans’ lead to 28-26 in the third quarter I thought the Bills should’ve gone for two to tie the game. They could’ve done it again when they pulled ahead 33-28. That would’ve forced overtime. Gailey, like most NFL coaches, was too conservative.’

‘I’m sick of this coaching staff. Dave Wannstedt isn’t cutting it as defensive coordinator. The Bills have one of the worst defensive units in the league, even though they spent a lot of money to improve the “D.” The players need to play better. No doubt about it. But they are playing in a scheme that is ineffective.’

‘But the Bills defence, almost to a man, disappointed in a game that Buffalo should have won. The Bills went into the game with the worst run defence in the NFL, and Titans running back Chris Johnson exploited it time again with 195 yards on 18 carries.’

‘”We have to re-evaluate everything you do,” said Gailey, stressing that he will not make changes to the defensive coaching staff. “I don’t think we would give up as many yards as we have given up (through seven games). I did not foresee that.’

‘The Titans rolled up 390 total yards, including 197 on the ground, and converted nine times in 14 chances on third down, a 64-percent clip that was nearly 25 percentage points better than their season average.’

‘Maybe if firing Mario Williams were an option the Bills would consider it.’

‘”We talked about (the Super Bowl) almost from Day 1,” Polian said Sunday. “That was our goal. So we weren’t surprised when we got there. We reached our goal, but didn’t quite finish the job. But no one else is ever going to go to four (straight) Super Bowls again. It was truly one of the greatest teams in the history of the NFL.”‘
