‘Losing is bad enough, being embarrassed is quite something else.’

‘You know the way it works in the NFL. Dave Wannstedt is going to take the fall for this mess. The old line is that you can’t fire all the players but when you keep having games that send reporters to the all-time record books for futility, someone is going under the team bus, Believe me Wannstedt deserves his share of the blame because the Bills look totally unprepared to change or adapt to what opponents are doing, especially in the second half of games. But there is a point on the field where the other team just lines up and tests your NFL manhood with power running plays. The Patriots and Niners did that time after time for the last 83 minutes of football and the result has been 13 touchdowns allowed.’

‘”Well, I thought we executed it extremely well, and receivers were just really getting open and doing a fine job, really running strong,” said 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh of the San Francisco passing game. “There were some fabulous catches made and some really good routes, and they were just getting it and going. And Alex (Smith) was really on the money all day and the protection was excellent.”‘

‘”I have no answer,” Gailey said. “I have no answer. I have no excuse. But I have to find the answer. That’s my job.”‘

‘Bring up the Q-word in a professional locker room, and you’re asking for trouble. But what other conclusion could one draw after the debacle at Candlestick Park a week after the 52-28 fiasco last week at home in a division game against the Patriots?’

‘”That’s not quitting. We weren’t just sitting there, letting the guy run through, letting the guy catch the ball or getting out of gaps on purpose. That’s not quitting. We just didn’t finish.”‘

‘The Niners had 180 rushing yards after just 45 minutes against the Bills.’

‘Buffalo’s defense looked totally flummoxed.’

‘If the Bills truly didn’t pack it in during the second half when they gave up 28 unanswered points, then they must really be as bad as they looked, and that’s not a comforting thought.’

‘Clearly, I’m a bit ornery after watching the 45-3 flogging the 49ers administered, so read on at your own peril.’

‘The Bills couldn’t have slowed down Jim Brown. Not in-his-prime Jim Brown, but today’s 76-year-old Jim Brown.’

‘Ryan Fitzpatrick can’t play defense, so those 621 yards the Bills allowed weren’t on him. However, it’s starting to look like Fitz can’t play offense, either.’

‘The offense couldn’t get anything going and the defense was awful. What adjustments did Dave Wannstedt make at halftime? They couldn’t stop the run, cover anyone or get near the quarterback. I feel like the Bills just quit today.’

‘The Patriots game was bad, but this game was worse. There are no excuses. Something needs to change and it needs to change now.’
