‘”I’m not a stranger to this at all,” said Jones. “I did it all preseason getting me ready in case something like this was to happen. Now it’s time for me to step in and do it in a game.”‘

Experience teaches Bills’ Spiller to be patient
‘”Two years ago I was a rookie, I was still wet behind my ears,” Spiller said Wednesday. “I learned a lot over the last couple years, learning this offense, being patient, trying to figure out how the defense is going to play me. I’ve taken the mind-set of anything between a 3- to an 8-yard gain is a great run.”‘
Super Mario gets a reality check
‘OK, so I’ve said the same things over the years. Harrison had a point. But instead of feigning ignorance, Williams could have defended the organization, gotten behind his embattled quarterback, and re-asserted his belief that the Bills are a rising Super Bowl contender.’
Chiefs’ Hali completes suspension
‘”This is not the type of light they want the organization to be in,” Hali told reporters Wednesday upon returning to practice. “I’m truly sorry for the embarrassment. I just want to move forward and get better as a team and as an individual.”‘
Lamonica to return for Alumni Weekend
‘If there was a vote for “Worst Trade in Bills History,” it probably would be unanimous: The deal that sent Lamonica from Buffalo to the Oakland Raiders in 1967. It still hurts long-time Bills fans to think about it, especially the six touchdown passes Lamonica put up in the first half of the 50-21 rout of the Bills in 1969.’
Bills, county agree they need one-year extension of lease
‘Peter Anderson, a spokesman for Poloncarz, this afternoon clarified that no one-year deal has been finalized. He said other media reports that the two sides had reached a one-year lease agreement are inaccurate.’
Buffalo Bills overcome anguish, look to home opener
‘”In big-time wins sometimes people get caught up in that as well. We’ve put that game behind us and hopefully learned some things from that game, but we’ve moved on to the Chiefs and we’re ready to go and we’re excited about the home opener.”‘
Mario Williams ignores critic who knocked decision to join Bills
‘”Everybody’s going to have something to say regardless, good or bad,” said Williams, who was limited to one tackle in the loss to New York. “I can’t control somebody else’s opinions. But I will do what I’m supposed to do here and perform. I’m not going to worry about it after the first game.”‘
Coach says Bills never intended to hurt Berry
‘Bills coach Chan Gailey said, “I hate (that Berry) feels that way because there was never any intention. We never talked about it. It was never even discussed. Our guys were just hustling and trying to make blocks. It was unfortunate it happened. He’s a great player and I’m glad to see him back on the field.”‘

Bills DT Dareus excused after brother killed
‘Dareus was excused from practice after flying home earlier this week to be with his family. Coach Chan Gailey said he’s spoken with Dareus, who indicated he intends to be back in time to play in the home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.’
Bills, county agree to 1-year lease extension
”’Nobody wants to have a gun at their heads thinking if we don’t get it done by the end of the season then what’s going to happen,” Poloncarz said. ”By doing an extension, it guarantees the Bills are here for the full 2013 season, and it gives us ample time during the next 18 months or so to continue these negotiations.”’
Chiefs-Bills Preview
‘”We definitely didn’t do what we needed to do to win,” Williams said. “The biggest thing was that we didn’t get sacks. Starting with myself, we definitely have to put the quarterback on his back with any means necessary.”‘
Spiller gets another opportunity to replace Jackson
‘”You just (have to) be ready,” Spiller said. “You prepare just like you are going to be the starter. You never know what is going to happen on any play. We did not think Fred was going to get hurt on that play or in the first game, but if I had not prepared like I was going to be the guy then I would not have been ready. I prepared like I was going to be the guy. I was ready and I stepped in. That is pretty much my mindset since I began playing the game of football.”‘
Strategy And Personnel
‘The Chiefs opened last year losing to Buffalo 41-7 at home, fired their head coach late in the year, endured front-office bickering and injuries, and still finished with a better record than the Bills. With both teams laying giant eggs last week, this an early “must win” for both teams, but especially Buffalo which can ill afford to lose at home after so much preseason hype. The Chiefs, now under the guidance of coach Romeo Crennel, get back the services of two key defenders this week (and four defensive starters overall) in LB Tamba Hali and CB Brandon Flowers, meaning it might behoove the Bills to concentrate on running the ball and giving erratic QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (three picks vs. Jets) a comfort zone. Meanwhile, now would be a good time for Buffalo’s expensively remodeled defense to show up after not showing up at all vs. the Jets. Chiefs QB Matt Cassel was roughed up for three sacks and two interceptions by Atlanta and defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt needs to be more aggressive if he wants a similar feeding frenzy.’
