‘”You just (have to) be ready,” Spiller said. “You prepare just like you are going to be the starter. You never know what is going to happen on any play. We did not think Fred was going to get hurt on that play or in the first game, but if I had not prepared like I was going to be the guy then I would not have been ready. I prepared like I was going to be the guy. I was ready and I stepped in. That is pretty much my mindset since I began playing the game of football.”‘

Strategy And Personnel
‘The Chiefs opened last year losing to Buffalo 41-7 at home, fired their head coach late in the year, endured front-office bickering and injuries, and still finished with a better record than the Bills. With both teams laying giant eggs last week, this an early “must win” for both teams, but especially Buffalo which can ill afford to lose at home after so much preseason hype. The Chiefs, now under the guidance of coach Romeo Crennel, get back the services of two key defenders this week (and four defensive starters overall) in LB Tamba Hali and CB Brandon Flowers, meaning it might behoove the Bills to concentrate on running the ball and giving erratic QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (three picks vs. Jets) a comfort zone. Meanwhile, now would be a good time for Buffalo’s expensively remodeled defense to show up after not showing up at all vs. the Jets. Chiefs QB Matt Cassel was roughed up for three sacks and two interceptions by Atlanta and defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt needs to be more aggressive if he wants a similar feeding frenzy.’
Dareus takes leave for family tragedy
‘”I think the thing that we can all agree on is there are many, many things that are more important than this game and losing a football game,” Williams told the team’s website. “We’re here to support Marcell. I think he’ll be back sometime this week and our prayers are with him.”‘
Upon Further Review- Bills QB, WRs & DBs vs Jets
‘Too many opportunities were left on the field this week by Fitzpatrick.’
Bills’ Mario Williams ”By any means necessary”
‘It’s supposed to be a new defense, but it looked like the same old Bills defense in game one. Williams said, “We definitely as a whole and starting off with myself, we didn’t do what we needed to do to win. The biggest thing was getting sacks. We got back there, but if you don’t get him down to the ground before he throws the ball, even if you hit him it doesn’t matter, you’ve got to get him with the ball so, starting with myself we definitely have to put the quarterback on his back by any means necessary.”‘
Despite tragedy, Bills expect Dareus to play Sunday
‘”I talked to him this morning,” said the head coach. “I think he’ll be back for Sunday’s game, whether it’s tonight, tomorrow or the next day I don’t know. But I think he’ll be here for this week. He wants to be back.”‘
Poloncarz: Work on Temporary Lease Underway
‘”I talked to Russ (Brandon) about the current situation of unlikely being able to meet the deadline to present something to the NFL owners by October,” says Poloncarz. “I am pleased in principle, they agree we can do a one year extension of the current lease, so there’s no gun to our heads to get it done in July. We will get a lease done.”‘
Bills’ Jackson thinks he’ll be back in four weeks or less
‘So now what’s ahead for Jackson? He said, “What we’re going to re-evaluate is to see how I’m healing in seven to 10 days. We’ve got a good picture of it and we know what we need to do to try to get me back.”‘
Coming Bills game prompts DWI warning
‘”What we’re asking people to do is to think ahead of time. Plan ahead before the game. When you arrive here before you start drinking how you’re going to get home. We’re asking everyone to chose a sober, designated driver to delegate or designate that sober driver that will get their party of family or friends home safely,” said Elizabeth Obad of MADD.’
Bills Lease Negotiations Delayed
‘While Mark Poloncarz declined to comment about what is holding things up, it is being reported that New York State was not available for several meetings – an accusation denied by State officials.’
Team rallies around Dareus
‘”I spoke to Marcell and all of our condolences do go out to him and the family,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “He’s got a lot on his plate to say the least. I talked to him this morning. I think he’ll be back for Sunday’s game whether it’s tonight, tomorrow or the next day, but I think he’ll be here for this week. He wants to be back.”‘
Jackson: I’ll be back in four weeks
‘”Hopefully sooner, but I’ll definitely be back in four weeks,” said Jackson. “Without a doubt.”‘

‘On how to not be frustrated by injuries: Every time you lose somebody, somebody else gets an opportunity. That is the way you have to approach it. You can sit around, gripe, moan and complain about what you do not have or you can get excited about what you do have. We choose that every day we get up. I choose to get excited about the guys who are going to get another opportunity right now.’

‘On what Rodney Harrison had to say about him: I don’t watch TV. Never had, never will. I think I have said that about a million times in my last seven years. Everybody is going to have something to say regardless, good or bad. I can’t control someone else’s opinion, but I will do what I’m supposed to do here, perform and not worry about that after this first game.’

‘On getting over the groin injury: It really does not matter to me. Right now, the way I feel I really do not care if it lingers or if it goes away today or tomorrow. I am going to be ready to play.’
