‘”When you see the names on the Wall of Fame – Kelly, Thomas, (Kent) Hull, Smith, (Andre) Reed and so many others – it just seems appropriate that Bill’s name is included. So I’m excited for Bill and his family that he is receiving the highest honor this franchise can bestow upon an individual. It’s certainly well deserved.”‘

‘Is this what Young’s career has come to — beating out Tyler Thigpen for a backup job?’

‘”He did some good things,” Bills coach Chan Gailey said after Tanney’s first workout on Friday. “First day for any quarterback is hard. … I like his quick throwing motion. He seems to have a strong arm. He seemed to pick up things fairly well. We’ll see how the rest of the weekend goes.”‘

‘”To be honest with you he’s exactly what we thought. He’s a raw route runner. He can run fast. He can catch a football. I’m anxious to see how he can develop,” said Bills head coach Chan Gailey.’

‘Brooks told the media after Saturday’s rookie camp session “You would think that not playing would make you want to change schools but for me it was a fight. I wanted to be the best at what I did and at LSU we’re known for having great defensive backs so I knew I had to come out there and work. Those guys pushed me to the point where I’m at now.”‘

‘”It felt good to be out there. I’m just trying to pick up as much as I can to learn the offense,” Tanney said.’

‘”I can’t tell you how excited I am,” said Polian not long after he was given the news by Bills Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson. “I told Mr. Wilson I really couldn’t find words adequate to express my gratitude and happiness. It’s a milestone in my life and a milestone in the life of my family. I’m so grateful that my children, all of them, grew up in Buffalo and especially my grandchildren can share this moment with my wife and me. I have such a warm spot in my heart in Buffalo, for all the friends we’ve made there, all of the wonderful times that we’ve had there. It’s just marvelous to come back and have this opportunity.”‘

‘Screaming might be an understatement as Fred’s mother had a difficult time composing herself after finding out the home she was standing in was hers, and that it was paid off.’

‘”I had never seen the video, still haven’t by the way. The video I saw was football and that I heard about was football. Then we had some reports from when he was working out after his year. The things that he was doing and we liked what we heard so see if we can get him in here and let him compete,” said Gailey.’

‘”We’re looking always to try to improve our team – get deeper and get more competition, and that’s what this is,” Bills General Manager Buddy Nix said. “It’s a competition for the backup quarterback job. Not the starter, obviously, I’ve said that 100 times. He knows it. That’s the way it is. It’s just to try to get us better.”‘

‘”You try to see the effort that a guy gives. You try to see if a guy is a lazy guy or a worker. You’re trying to figure that out. You’re trying to figure out, does a guy retain what you teach him? Can he hold on from day one to day two what you taught in day one, and add on to day two? So you’re looking at that,” Gailey said. “Those are the two main things. They’re talented guys, or they wouldn’t be here to start with.”‘

‘It took seven questions, all pertaining to Young, before coach Chan Gailey grew tired of the topic and felt the need to inform the media, “Ya know, we started rookie camp today, guys.”‘

‘”It’s a competition for the backup quarterback job. Not the starter,” Nix told reporters Friday afternoon. “Obviously I’ve said that 100 times. (Young) knows it. That’s the way it is. It’s just to try to get us better.”‘

‘The Bills announced the deal on Friday, a little over a week after 2006 NFL rookie of the year worked out for the team at its facility.’

‘Young has thrown for 8,964 yards with 46 touchdowns and 51 interceptions in 60 career games. He also has 12 rushing touchdowns.’
