‘”Further tests on Fred’s injured leg have shown that he has a broken bone in his leg, so that’s disappointing news for our team and certainly for Fred,” said head coach Chan Gailey in a statement. “The process for Fred to return to the field would most likely take him through the end of the season, so we have made the difficult decision to place him on Injured Reserve. This creates an opportunity for C.J. and, as we announced earlier, he will be our starting running back for this week’s game against the Jets.”‘

‘With Terrence McGee’s season-ending knee surgery landing him on injured reserve Buffalo is going to be relying on Williams, who is expected to start at left cornerback in McGee’s absence.’

‘Searcy could be joined in the starting lineup by second-round pick Aaron Williams, the cornerback out of Texas. Williams, who returned to the lineup last week after missing six games because of a collarbone injury, has a big opportunity sitting in front of him.’

‘The Bills promoted receiver Kamar Aiken from the practice squad, and also signed free agent receiver Derek Hagan to help offset the loss of Jones, who finished with 23 catches for 231 yards in eight games. The Bills also signed defensive back Prince Miller and re-signed guard Keith Williams to the practice squad.;

‘McGee, 31, injured his left knee against the Dolphins and underwent surgery on Monday. He has appeared in just six games — all starts — this season after suffering a hamstring injury in a season-opening win over the Chiefs.’

‘The Bills injured reserve list gained two more members as the club effectively ended the seasons of Terrence McGee and Donald Jones by moving them to I-R Tuesday. McGee sustained a torn patellar tendon in Sunday’s game at Miami and had surgery Monday. Jones meanwhile suffered the second high-ankle sprain of the season and was given a prognosis of six weeks.’

‘In 2010, the Bills finished 4-12, so this year had to be better. The way the Bills have looked the last three weeks, it’s hard to imagine them beating anybody, but a 5-11 or 6-10 finish is not acceptable anymore. That kind of a downward spiral would put head coach Chan Gailey and general manager Buddy Nix on the hot seat – or at least it should. A nice start is not enough progress for a team that has been down for so long.’
