‘Bills attempted to make another comeback late in the fourth quarter, and they succeed after Fitzpatrick connected with David Nelson on a 6-yard touchdown pass!’

‘After the game, referee Mike Carey clarified what exactly happened during the post-game melee. “It was ruled an interception, we came in the locker room after delaying to see if it was going to be reviewed,” Carey said. “I got a beep in the locker room — a buzz in the locker room — that said ‘review.’ Went back out, put the headset on, they weren’t set up. But it was an erroneous transmission, and they had already confirmed the ruling on the field.”‘

‘How many times last year did the Bills lose in overtime? How many times did the Bills lose by three points or less?’

‘We’re quickly finding out that this isn’t last year anymore.’

‘”Every time we got the ball the guys had a hundred percent confidence we were going to put it in the endzone,” said Fitzpatrick.’

‘Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you the Bills have improved to the point they’ll make the playoffs this season, although a 2-0 start is often rewarded with an extended season. But after two games, and yes, the KC Chiefs are a bad football team, the Bills are clearly and without argument improving under head coach Chan Gailey and gm Buddy Nix.’

’79 – The number of points the Bills have scored in the first two weeks of the season. Not bad for a team that traded away receiver Lee Evans and had major questions on the offensive line.’

‘Needing someone to step up at receiver, David Nelson did. Needing a total team effort to go 2-0, the entire Bills team did.’

‘While we tend to focus on the fact that the team doesn’t have a star, it’s that very fact that appears to be their key to success. They have options for Ryan Fitzpatrick. Based on his background, Fitz is the perfect guy to utilize those options. He doesn’t mind who he throws it to, and he can keep all those guys involved when egos may sometimes get in the way. Maybe the young Bills are just too inexperienced to know any better or care too much.’

‘Erie County Sheriff, Timothy Howard said, “We’ve been interviewing people as they arrive at the stadium and see how they actually feel about this procedure right now. We have been getting a 50/50 response, half the people like the idea and the other half are still opposed to it. And they say they had difficulty arriving.”‘

‘I think it was just growing up on a poor farm in North Dakota, I mean you had to work. My first organized practice was in 7th grade. My earliest recollection of football was being out there in the 7th grade waiting for the other kids for practice to start. The kids just saying “Gee, this stinks, it’s hot, we just want to play the game.” And I’m just like “I’m just glad to be here, if I was at home I’d really have to be working.” You know that’s my earliest recollection, I guess I just didn’t know it any other way.’
