“He is a productive player,” said Chan Gailey, Buffalo head coach. “He is a very good athlete and not just pocket guy. He can make some things happen with his feet. He is a great competitor and has a strong arm, which you need to have to play up here.”

‘"I think it’s going to be more dramatic than what people even think," DeHaven said after a recent training camp practice. "Everybody I hear is talking about how there’s going to be more touchbacks because they’re kicking from the 35. The thing I don’t hear people talking about is how much further down the field the coverage team is going to be when you’re trying to bring the ball out."’

‘"At the end of the day, I never went out to prove naysayers wrong or anything like that," he said. "Whenever I step on the football field, I want to be the best player that I can be and I want to help my team win football games. That’s always been my focus and that’s what it’s going to continue to be."’

‘"It means a lot to me that everybody passed on me four times but the fifth time these guys didn’t get it wrong," said Williams, a former fifth-round pick. "So I want to be here. But as far as all the contract stuff, it’s early, they’re just talking and we’ll see where it goes."’

‘”He definitely thinks I’m the guy. Hopefully a lot of people draft me and I can get them a lot of points. But right now I don’t really think about (starting). I’m just out here doing my job. That’s out of my hands, it’s up to the coaches, and if they decide to go that route, that’s what they’ll do.”‘

‘A 5-11 record is a distinct possibility. Buffalo might well win just one intradivision game, when it hosts Miami on Dec. 18, but matchups versus Oakland (Week 2), at Cincinnati (Week 4), versus Washington (Week 8), and versus Denver (Week 16) look promising. The result will be a seventh straight losing season, but at least it will represent a slight improvement on 2010’s 4-12 finish.’

‘”Yeah, they’re talking right now,” Williams told The Associated Press. He didn’t provide any further details except to say his agent is handling discussions.’

‘”He was everywhere,” said Bills head coach Chan Gailey. “He’s a big, strong, physical guy. He had a good night tonight. When he gets healthy, I think he can really be something.”‘

‘”I mean, not very lightly,” replied the Bills left guard. “It was my job so I’m going to make sure that I can do all that I can so that I still have that spot.”‘

‘The Bills defensive line was dominant at times and featured a strong night by top draft pick Marcell Dareus, who broke into the backfield to disrupt several plays.’

‘The final night time workout was another rough night for the Buffalo offense. And linebacker Nick Barnett punctuated the defensive dominance with a couple of hard hits on Wildcat QB Brad Smith, when he tried to run out of the shotgun.’

‘I think we have more talent spread out. You have Merriman (Shawne), Marcell (Dareus), Nick (Barnett), you’ve got guys on the back end that can play. I feel like I can do some good things. I think we have talent spread out throughout the defense, guys who can make plays and guys who create things for one another. Hopefully I can create things for Marcell (Dareus) and he can continue to get better and make some things (happen) for me, me for Merriman (Shawne), all of us for Nick (Barnett). I think it will be good. All of us play off of each other, play fair and do some good things.’

‘As far as his place in Bills lore, you can make a strong case for him being the biggest draft day bust in franchise history. Not only couldn’t he start for a 4-12 team that opened last season with eight consecutive losses, he couldn’t even dress for five of the games despite being healthy. The aforementioned draft day blunders at least started for a few seasons before being jettisoned.’

‘”I think when me and Marcell are inside I think if we’re getting after it and we’re running pretty hot we’re going to be hard to deal with,” said Williams. “I think that he does some things better than I can, I do some things better than he does. I think we play well off each other. I don’t know if you watch practice very much, but I’m always talking to him. I’m always pointing things out to him. I think we’ve really got a chance to be good. I really do. I think we can do some things up front.”‘
