‘”The union is run by agents. $600 million this year will go to the first-round picks in bonuses. Last year it was like $550 million. They don’t care about anything else,” DeLamielleure said. “The agents run the league. DeMaurice Smith is just a mouthpiece for (agents) Tom Condon and Dick Bertelson, that’s all it is.”

‘”He made some plays now, but as a coach my job is to be very critical to help him out. He made some great plays for us and he also felt he left some plays on the field and so his numbers could’ve been a lot better. Overall he’s headed in the right direction and he’ll get better in the running game, the passing game and on some down the field routes.”‘

‘”It got to a point where I couldn’t even play basketball with my daughter anymore,” Kelly said. “When I got up in the morning, it took me 15, 20 minutes to even get loose. I couldn’t put socks on anymore. That’s not a way to live. From hits, twisting the body, a little bit of everything. It’s just been getting worse and worse and worse. I couldn’t handle the pain anymore.”‘

‘Kelly wasn’t able to golf this year. Three weeks ago he had surgery to replace two discs in his lower back and had a metal plate inserted as well. “I’ve got two nice scars to add to the other scars I have,” Kelly said with a laugh.’

‘”I never thought this would get to 25 years to be honest with you,” he said. “As long as they keep coming out we’ll go up to 30 (years) and see how far it goes taking it one year at a time from there.”‘
