‘”It was fun,” Wood said. “[Suh’s] a good player and we went at it a bunch. But I don’t think he lit up the stat book the way he has been at times. We’ll watch the tape. It’s hard to diagnose the performance right afterwards.”‘

On this given Sunday, resolve finds its reward
‘”I keep using the words resolve and resiliency,” Wilson said, “because that’s what it’s taken for us to get to this moment. There were a lot of days when guys could have thrown the towel in, or the coaching staff could have given up on us. But no one knows the hard work we’ve put in, except the guys who are here working each and every day.”‘
Group effort lets players enjoy that winning feeling
‘”I think the thing is, you got all these guys and they work hard and it’s important to them,” Williams said. “And getting over the hump is something we’ve been grinding and scratching for the last few weeks. We knew it was right there for us. Today we made it happen.”‘
Injury stops Spiller after fast start
‘”I want to say, for a running back, a hamstring is always significant,” Gailey said. “I can’t imagine him playing this week. We’ll have to see how long that lasts.”‘
Defense, Jackson make timely plays
‘Chan Gailey opted to go for it on a fourth-and-1 situation at the Lions’ 12. Fred Jackson was stuffed. When you’re 0-8, why not? Nevertheless, the Bills could have used the extra three points at the end.’
‘Run and stop the run’ proves successful
‘Another solid defensive game plan by Edwards. Gailey was aggressive early with pass, but committed to run. Got too conservative with the lead.’
Winning is no longer necessary
‘The priority now should be to get as many of their young players on the field as possible and let them develop. It’s easy to spot the glaring holes on the roster. It’s harder to figure out how many building blocks are in place. And if the team hopes to be more competitive next season, they don’t want their second- and-third year players learning on the job and making rookie mistakes.’
Time for a game plan
‘We’ve already got the atmosphere on Sundays. It’s what happens the rest of the week around here that needs work.’
Bills win caps off great weekend for Buffalo sports fans
‘”I want to say I am amazed but I am not,” Gailey said trying to find the right words to define the raucous crowd. “That’s Buffalo fans. I didn’t expect any different. They are loyal. They love the Bills. They are with you. They made a difference in the game. It is a true statement they made a difference in the game.”‘
Lowly Bills have good company
‘With their 14-12 loss, the Lions extended their road losing skid to an unfathomable 25 games with no end in sight, thereby establishing an NFL record for utter futility.’

Bills finally win one, 14-12 over Lions
‘The Lions, who never led, nearly pulled off a dramatic comeback when quarterback Shaun Hill hit Calvin Johnson for a 20-yard touchdown pass to cut the Bills lead to 14-12 with 14 seconds left. Hill failed on the 2-point conversion when he couldn’t find an open receiver, and eventually overthrew tight end Brandon Pettigrew in the back of the end zone.’
Bills rookie RB Spiller out indefinitely
‘The first-round draft pick was hurt after he ran 29 yards on a punt return with 9 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter. He was hit by Detroit’s Vinny Ciurciu along the sideline.’
Lions starting DE Avril out
‘Starting right tackle Cordaro Howard is inactive for the Bills. He had started the last three games after Cornell Green sustained a knee injury that put him on injured reserve.’
Buffalo 14, Detroit 12
‘Jackson carried the brunt of the ground game after C.J. Spiller left in the first half with a hamstring injury. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 12-of-24 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown for the Bills (1-8), whose winless start after eight games was the worst for the franchise since an 0-11 start to the 1984 campaign.’
