‘Spiller, handed the starting running back job for the evening because of injuries to incumbents Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson, helped explain his selection with the ninth-overall pick in last year’s draft.’

Just who is getting fleeced on this deal?
‘Clearly, it’s been a debacle. It’s not easy to screw the National Football League up, since it’s the most powerful sports entity in North America and all. But here we are.’

Spiller sparks Bills to 34-21 win over Colts
‘”I think you can see tonight why we drafted C.J.,” Gailey said of the player selected ninth overall out of Clemson. “Obviously, running the ball is what he does best. And he made an unbelievable run on that touchdown.”‘
Bills TE Schouman hurts knee against Colts
‘Schouman, who’s been limited by injuries for part of training camp, was hurt early in the second quarter on a play in which quarterback Trent Edwards scrambled for 3 yards. It’s unclear which knee Schouman hurt.’
Rookie Spiller lead Bills past Colts 34-21
‘”I just read my keys and the offensive line did a great job of holding them,” Spiller said. “I just cut back, made a guy miss and it felt good to get in there.”‘
Buffalo 34, Indianapolis 21
‘Buffalo quarterback Trent Edwards finished 5-of-8 for 93 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown pass to Lee Evans to cap a high-scoring first quarter.’
Bills Trump Colts 34-21 In Toronto
‘Coach Gailey had praise for his young tailback, saying CJ Spiller “picked up a couple pass protections that were good,” and he made “an unbelievable play” on the long touchdown run early in the game.’
Bills Show Hints of Excitement
‘Some Bills’ fans had to be nervous after losing both Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch to injury last week. And in one run, all those fears went away. C.J. Spiller is exhilarating to watch, and that 31-yard scamper was all the evidence anyone needs. Spiller’s run was dedicated to those that hated the Bills for taking a running back in the first round because Buffalo already had two running backs.’
Preseason Immediate Reactions: Bills 34, Colts 21
Stevie Johnson has so far struggled in his attempt to seize the No. 2 wide receiver position, this time only grabbing one ball for a measly two yards. The big man will need to make some moves to separate from coverage in the final two games of the preseason, as the job is still his to lose. Chad Jackson snagged a very respectable five balls for 52 yards to pace all Bills.
Observations from Colts-Bills in Toronto
‘Trent Edwards might have one the starting quarterback job with how he responded to one specific play. On a third-and-10 play in the first quarter, Colts defensive end Robert Mathis crushed Edwards while throwing. The hit knocked off Edwards\’ helmet and chipped a tooth. Two possessions and five plays later, Edwards hooked up with Lee Evans for a 70-yard touchdown bomb.’
C.J. Spiller gives Bills more than just a back
‘Even if the Bills win only a handful of games, their fans should be riveted by Spiller’s mere presence on the field.’
Big plays carry Bills to win over Colts
‘”The offensive line did a great job blocking up front. Coming in we knew how they were going to play, how we knew they were a fast defense and how they were going to probably overrun a couple of our plays,” said Spiller. “I just read my keys and Corey (McIntyre) did a great job. I just cut back, made a guy miss and it felt good to get in there.”‘
Five players to watch
Bills hope to make big strides tonight against Colts
‘If tackle Cornell Green plays, Spiller could be running behind the entire starting offensive line. Thursday’s game would be the first time the five projected lineman would be in together in live action.’
