‘”I’m not trying to get intensity up even though that’s what happens when you go live,” said head coach Chan Gailey. “It’s just that you had better been live somewhere before you line up next Friday night and that was the last time we’ll be truly live before we get to next Friday night.”‘

‘Bills coach Chan Gailey used words such as “tweaked” and “precautionary” to describe Green’s injury and said he expects the 6-foot-6, 315-pound tackle back soon.’

‘Spiller is expected to arrive at training camp about noon. The deal will be worth about $20.8 million in guaranteed money and $37.5 million maximum.’

‘A full crowd of several thousand watched C.J. Spiller’s first practice in the evening. Spiller drew some oohs and aahs from the crowd on his first good gainer off tackle. “He’s got a lot of catching up to do, not only mentallly but physically, so we’re going to work him in slow,” said coach Chan Gailey. “But you can see the explosiveness that he’s always had.”‘

‘”I went to eat lunch with my family and when I got back about two hours later, Gary (Wichard, his California-based agent) called and said ‘How does it feel to get your contract done on your birthday?’ It’s something I’ll always remember no matter what day it was, but it was special to do it on my birthday.”‘

‘Despite the brevity of the session, another player went down with an injury. Wide receiver/punt returner Roscoe Parrish left the field about halfway through with what appeared to be a back injury. “It’s not bad, he’ll be back in a couple days,” Gailey said.’

‘Spiller will join Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch in the Buffalo backfield. Rather crowded. Speculation has already begun that the team will trade one of them. Obviously it won’t be Spiller and Jackson is expected to open the season as the starter. That would leave Lynch expendable. Seattle, St. Louis and Denver are believed to have an interest with Buffalo looking for draft picks or help on the offensive line.’

‘New head coach Chan Gailey recognized that the Bills have a severe lack of experience and depth, and early in camp, he sees that it’s going to be a long haul. “We’ve got work to do, that’s what I’ve noticed,” he said. “We’re getting better. I think we have a pretty good mindset, a tough mindset, but at the same time we’ve got a lot of work to do in the technical aspects, more so in the pass game than in the run game.”‘

‘”The theory behind that is that it’s a tough game for tough people, and in order to be a physical football team, you have to feel what it’s like to be in pads,” said Gailey. “We go out and do walk-throughs and you can go out in shorts and get an idea of responsibility and what your job is, but to understand the game and how it’s played with leverage and low-man wins, you’ve got to have pads on.”‘

‘”We’re definitely going to get a lot of work in pads because coach Gailey is trying to change the culture around here, change the mindset and attitudes and the way we prepare for games. He’s trying to set the tone from day one. I think the guys in the locker room kind of expect to be in pads just about every day we come out here. It’s a different change-up from what we’ve had but hey, the past 10-12 years for this organization haven’t been working so hey, let’s give this a try.”‘
