‘To those unfamiliar with Gailey’s history, it’s worth wondering what the new regime is thinking. But Gailey’s got a history of taking forgettable quarterbacks and putting them in very favorable situations.’

Memorial Day’s honor belongs to fallen heroes like former Bills lineman Robert Kalsu
‘Kalsu’s decision to serve rather than seek a paperwork reprieve didn’t gain the banner headlines of Pat Tillman’s Army enlistment in 2002, a courageous and defiant response to Sept. 11 by the Arizona Cardinals safety. Neither did Kalsu’s death move the nation like Tillman’s accidental killing by friendly fire in Afghanistan. It is appropriate, though, on this Memorial Day, to fully honor the sacrifice of every fallen hero, giants all.’
Bills’ Hardy forsees big things
‘"Most definitely, it’s mine," he said after the Bills’ first week of organized team activities. "I’m going for it. You will see me out there. I feel that this is my breakout season."’
How long will T.O. remain unemployed?
‘The Bills’ poor quarterback play had a lot to do with Owens’ sub-par season, but there were times when he had trouble separating from cornerbacks.’
Bills’ running plan solid; Super Bowl in New York not so much
‘Now the 2010 team seems to be constructing in a similar way with Spiller, Fred Jackson and – who knows? – maybe Marshawn Lynch.’
Bills looking for spark on the ground
‘"You look at C.J., and he’s a very dynamic back," top receiver Lee Evans said. "He’s quick, he runs hard, and he’s fast. He brings another dimension of versatility to the offense, which never hurts."’
Parrish pumped about possibilities
‘”You look at it now and it’s crazy,” Parrish told Buffalobills.com. “I’m on the same field and I’m here, but the coaching staff is gone. In this profession you never know what’s going to happen. Last year I just prayed and hoped the best would come. This offseason with Chan Gailey and a new coaching staff, it just made everything better. So much better.”‘
Whitner likes extra work under Gailey
‘"Even if we thought we were working hard before, it’s a lot harder now," he added. "It’s almost like a welcome to the NFL type of thing."’
Inside slant
‘”I’m still a football player. It still comes down to making plays. You’d rather be with one offense your entire career. And you’ll probably look at the stats of the guys that are winning Super Bowls that are probably in systems they’ve been in for quite some period of time. I’m not going to sit here and say ‘I wish Steve Fairchild was still here running the offense.’ That’s the way the business is run. That’s the way I have to be. I have to play, I have to adjust to it and that’s kind of where I’m at right now.”‘
Strategy and personnel
‘In other position battles, WR James Hardy opened up with the starting unit opposite Lee Evans but is being pushed hard by Steve Johnson.’
Notes, quotes
‘”It’s all about coming out here and working. Whoever the starter ends up being, if I work as hard as I can and I’m the starter, I know the team’s going to be better. If I work as hard as I can and Trent (Edwards) is the starter, then we’re going to be a better team because of it. I’m going to push him and he’s going to push me.” — Veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on handling competition.’
Good day for tight ends
‘”Even if we thought we were working hard before, it’s a lot harder now,” said Donte Whitner. “So it’s almost like a welcome to the NFL type of thing. The weight room, its totally different thing from the way we lift, the style of lifting, the things we do, the running. It’s almost going back to college knowing how hard you work, the conditioning, running the gassers and the times that we have to be here and the amount of work that we have to put in. That’s what it’s going to take for us to win everybody in top peak shape. We’ve been in the top 3 the past couple of year in injuries. That should help us, so I think we’ll be pretty good.”‘
Bills sign fifth-round pick Wang
‘The 6-foot-5, 301-pound lineman from Virginia Tech was the 140th overall pick in the fifth round, and is the first of Buffalo’s nine draft choices to sign.’
Wang the first draft choice to sign
‘”It was very important," said Wang of having his parents present. "My family means everything to me so it’s just great to have them up here and be with me and share this moment.”‘
NFL draft pick has Rector ties
‘A defensive end in college, Batten is expected to move to outside linebacker in the Bills’ 3-4 defense.’
