‘Why would the Bills, with T.O. and Lee Evans, court a quarterback with the passing touch of a blacksmith?’

Bills Head Coach Dick Jauron’s Conference Call to Nashville Media
‘On Edwards’ transition this year: He started off very good. We were moving the ball offensively and then in the third game we just kind of fell off a cliff and haven’t been able to produce since then. Then he came upon the injury, so we’re looking forward to getting him back in there. We like what Fitz (Ryan Fitzpatrick) did for us. We love having Ryan as our backup, he’s a really good competitive guy, but we’re looking forward to giving Trent a shot and we’ve done some different things with our offense starting just when he get hurt, starting in that game, so hopefully those will help him and help us be more productive.’
Bills QB Trent Edwards’ Conference Call to Nashville Media
‘It’s been killing us and I think when you guys lost those first six games it was probably the same situation with your offense. Not converting on third downs, constant turnovers, and not scoring in the red zone, and when any offense struggles those are the three things you look at and we’ve got to fix those things. We’ve got to stay on the field on third downs, we’ve got to score when we get down there and we can’t turn the ball over.’
Bills QB Edwards to start vs. Titans
‘In six games this season for the Bills (3-5), Edwards has completed 91-of-153 passes for 985 yards, five TDs and six picks.’
Bills activate WR Hardy; waive RB Omon
‘He’s spent the past three weeks practicing with the team. It’s unclear if Hardy will play at Tennessee on Sunday. Hardy’s addition means the Bills are carrying seven receivers.’
Hardy added to roster; Omon waived
‘A former sixth-round pick in 2008, Omon appeared in four games this season with five carries for 22 yards. He was also inactive for two games and did not play in two others including Buffalo’s last game against Houston.’
No space for Vick on Bills
‘The Bills need to play out the string with Trent Edwards and watch him check his way down to another 7-9 season and then draft another quarterback. If only this team could be trusted to pick the right guy.’
Bills QB Edwards reclaims starting job
‘Coach Dick Jauron said Wednesday that Edwards has “earned the right” to start after the offense continued to struggle under backup Ryan Fitzpatrick(notes). The Bills (3-5) opened the season 1-4 under Edwards, before he sustained his second concussion in a little over a year in a 16-13 overtime win at the New York Jets.’
Edwards to start Sunday
‘”We’ve moved through a number of things with our offense,” said Jauron. “When we went to New York when he got injured we started something new and we thought it suited him better. And it seemed like he took to it. He was 5-5 (passing) when he got hurt and left the game. We’re hoping that he picks up from there and we pick up from there.”‘
Buffalo (3-5) at Tennessee (2-6)
‘”I think with the expectations of the season, myself included by coming here, the bar was raised,” Owens said. “And so, we’re nowhere near it. And I think that’s where the air’s kind of been let out a little bit.”‘
Bills WR Owens misses practice due to injury
‘Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said Wednesday that coach Dick Jauron would provide an update following practice.’
Midseason Report: Bills
‘After 10 years of not making the playoffs, the organization should have completed the rebuilding phase from its last postseason game, which ended with the Music City Miracle. Many teams have rebuilt, imploded and rebuilt again in that span. But the Bills likely are facing an offseason of further transition. In addition to Jauron’s job being in jeopardy, the Bills still don’t have a reliable quarterback — a veteran or a viable understudy — on the roster. With word they’re considering Michael Vick, one has to wonder if the Bills have any organizational plan whatsoever or if they’re content to wing it year after year.’
Migraines gone for Nelson
‘”Some people get injuries and some people’s bodies react in different ways,” said Nelson. “From the outside looking in some players’ afflictions look really small. But you won’t know unless you’ve had migraines yourself, especially the way I get them. They are unreal. I can’t even move.”‘
Bills’ Byrd has natural flight path to the ball
‘It is no accident that he has already established himself among the league’s elite at producing interceptions. Willing student who is very advanced in his understanding of the game. Is adept at anticipating routes. Has outstanding skills once ball is in the air. Lacks blazing speed but finds ways to compensate for that.’
First half report card
‘ Somehow, they’ve won three games. Before the year, I think every one of us would’ve told you the Buccaneers, and Jets would be awful. The Bills beat them, as well as a Carolina team as mercurial as any in the league. Any other team two games out of their division lead would feel good moving forward. Here? Not-so-much.’
