‘Why take a guy who hasn’t played a snap and throw him on a hostile field against a blitzing Jets defense that terrorizes opposing QBs?’

Sheppard says T.O. needs to get the ball
‘”They’re just not focusing their offense with him; that’s where they’re messing up,” Sheppard said. “They’ve got to do a good job of designing plays for him. You’ve got to be creative and let him do what he does best – and that’s run after the catch. If you can’t be creative and learn how to get him the ball in open space, he’s not going to be effective for them.”‘
Bills waiting for first-rounder Maybin to emerge
‘”It’s tough for a rookie to come in and be effective immediately,” said defensive end Chris Kelsay, the player whose job was thought to be in jeopardy when the Bills used the 11th overall pick in April to select Maybin out of Penn State.’
Buffalo Bills defenders Posluszny, Whitner practice, may play Sunday
‘The Bills have sorely missed Posluszny in the middle of their defense. He broke his arm in the first half of the season-opening game at New England and without him, the Buffalo linebacking corps has been severely depleted. The Bills now rank 29th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed after being gouged for 222, 250 and 171 yards the last three weeks.’
T.O. says he’s committed to Bills
‘”Whether it happens or not I don’t know,” Owens said. “I’m committed right here until it does happen. I’m not saying that it will, but I’m committed (to Buffalo).”‘

Thursday’s Chicago Coverage
Don’t bet on Bears dealing for Owens (Chicago Sun Times)
Chance of Bears acquiring T.O.: unlikely (Arlington Heights Daily Herald)
Inside slant
‘A loss Sunday would drop the Bills to 0-3 in the division a year after they went 0-6.’
Strategy and personnel
‘Draft, 33, who appeared in 12 games for St. Louis last season after previous stops in Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta and Carolina, has appeared in 142 NFL games, easily making him the most experienced player among Buffalo’s linebacker corps that now consists of Keith Ellison (four years), Posluszny (two years), Jon Corto (two years) and rookies Nic Harris and Ashlee Palmer.’
Notes, quotes
‘A jocular Wilson, who turns 91 on Saturday, found humor in his team’s plight and his advancing age: “They can’t do this to me much longer.”‘
Leonhard Gets First Shot at His First Team
‘”I was surprised. I expected to have some conversation with them and they basically said, ‘We’re moving on,’ " Leonhard told newyorkjets.com today. "You don’t forget something like that."’
Bills fans rent billboard to advertise discontent
‘The display will feature a message that reads, “It’s time to clean house, RALPH,” referring to Wilson. Next to that will be a checklist of three names: Jauron; the team’s chief college scout Tom Modrak; and vice president of pro personnel John Guy.’
Poz, Whitner practice with first unit
‘”He looked good,” said Fewell still smiling. “It was good to see him in there. Maybe I was just happy to see the guy. He had an interception in practice. He got the front set and got everybody calmed down. He took command of the defense so it was really, really good to see him back there.”‘
Bears do not need a T.O.
‘To trade Owens, the Bills might as well just fire Jauron and his staff and call the season. It’s pretty close to that, anyway.’
Bills S Whitner, LB Posluszny back at practice
‘Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell got the news Tuesday after Posluszny and Whitner were medically cleared. “That was the only time I smiled,” Fewell said.’
