‘Because of that approach to corporate profitability and not team productivity, the Bills will remain pitiful for quite a while and, at this rate, they will be known as a punchline not for their Super Bowl losses, but rather for their transformation into the second coming of the Buccaneers of the 1970s and 80s.’

Fans say it can’t get much worse
‘Would he fire Jauron? “I’d go even higher than that,” Walsh said. “I’m not sure if they have a general manager. If they don’t, they need one.”‘
Terrell Owens: coming to a salon near you
‘Owens, 35, owns T.O. Cutz, a barbershop at 250 NE 25th St. in Miami. “It’s a great place to get yourself groomed up,” he says.’
Inside slant
‘But anyone in the Buffalo locker room who claims the team has passion is fooling himself because there are at least a couple dozen players who seem to be playing for nothing more than a paycheck, one that most of them did not deserve Monday.’
Strategy and personnel
‘Dick Jauron’s days would appear to be numbered in Buffalo, though the problem is there is no one on the staff capable of taking over as the lead man. Jauron’s team had nine false start penalties in a home game, 13 penalties overall. His offense scored three points against a Cleveland defense that was ranked 31st in points, 32nd in yards. His team found a way to lose a game in which the opposing quarterback completed two passes for 23 yards. What more can you say? The coordinators have not distinguished themselves, but in all honesty, with the startling lack of reserve talent on this roster that is now pressed into duty because there are so many injuries, you have to wonder what exactly they’re supposed to do. It’s a mess in Buffalo.’
Notes, quotes
‘Wide receiver Terrell Owens had a season-high four catches, but they went for a mere 44 yards and none of his receptions came in the second half. He also had a six-yard run on a reverse. Owens said he was impressed by the way the fans greeted the 1-3 team before the game, and afterward said “They deserve more. These fans are passionate. Coming out, before this game we’re 1-3, but you really couldn’t tell it by the fans. You would’ve thought we were 3-1, so that in itself motivates me enough.” When asked if he would have booed the team for that performance if he was a fan, Owens said “I’m pretty sure, yeah, I’m pretty sure I would.”‘
