‘”We really liked the way he was coming (along),” said Jauron. “We wanted to see him work in there with our first unit in this last game and then planned to split time. We would like to see him get healthy quick so we can get him back out there playing.”‘

T.O.’s toe is fine; Bills offense still limping
‘Though the start of practice was closed to the media, the Bills announced that Owens was back on the field and would address reporters afterward. The receiver has been out since jamming his toe in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 9, and returns as Buffalo prepares to close the preseason hosting Detroit on Thursday.’
DT Johnson stepping it up
‘”He’s had a great preseason and training camp,” said head coach Dick Jauron. “He’s a great teammate. He plays hard. Spence has done a real nice job.”‘
Jauron: We’re sticking with no-huddle
‘”I don’t have any issues with the no-huddle,” Jauron said. “If you call in plays [from the sidelines], I’ve never really been able to figure out what the difference is [between huddling and not huddling].”‘
Maybin shows quickness in debut game for Bills
‘"Obviously there’s always things I can improve on but I felt like I had a decent game coming out," Maybin said. "Hopefully this next week coming up I can make a little more progression and take momentum into Week One."’
Bills’ Paul Posluszny channels passion into making playoffs
‘"This has got to be the year for us — this team, this organization," Posluszny said late Saturday night following the Steelers’ 17-0 preseason win over Buffalo at Heinz Field. "We’ve got to make it to the playoffs this year. That’s definitely the ultimate goal."’
Stupar catching on quick for Bills
‘”You have to be able to fill in when people go down, especially in this league,” he said. They (teams) are only allowed to dress so many players so when opportunity calls, you have to be ready to go and make the most of it.”‘
Maybin makes impact
‘”Obviously, you’re behind as far as the playbook and everything like that,” Maybin said. “I was in shape when I (reported), but you’re never in football shape until you have the pads on. That kind of stuff plays a factor. I didn’t feel behind physically at all. At the end of the day, football is football. I’m going to come in, I’m going to practice hard, and I’m going to play hard when the time comes.”‘
Bills’ no-huddle goes nowhere again
‘Buffalo held the ball just 8:14 of the first 30 minutes Saturday. The Bills were outgained, 209-50, in the first half.’
Jauron hopes LeBeau gets into Hall
‘”He’ll tell you exactly how he sees it, how you’re doing, how it’s supposed to be done, how and why it fits with what everyone else on the team is doing.”‘
Wish list for Bills has many parts
‘More finger-crossing is needed concerning the completely restructured offensive line. After playing well in the victory over the Chicago Bears, the line was the picture of disorientation when it encountered the 3-4 defense for the first time. Johnny Jolly, an anonymous backup defensive lineman for the Packers, looked like the second coming of Reggie White against the Bills.’
Sabres, like Bills, being rewarded for mediocrity
‘The best thing you can say about the Sabres is they’re closer to the playoffs than the Bills.’
Bills quotes
‘Coach Dick Jauron: There wasn’t a whole lot good to say about that. I guess I can say I thought we punted it well and recovered it well other than that you know, our defense plays hard, very good on third down. We could not get off the field. That’s a credit to them. It was a 17-0 game because we really didn’t do anything on offense except for Marshawn’s (Lynch) run. Thought Marshawn ran the ball well. And late in the fourth quarter we went down the field and had the field goal blocked. So it was not a good night. Like I said, I give our defense credit for hanging in there and battling. We got a lot of issues that we’ve got to solve. We’ve got to solve them very quickly.’
