‘Reacting to the news, some City Council members said the city won’t go through with plans to host an event to honor Smith. “I don’t think it’s appropriate,” Councilman Jim Wood said. “It puts the city in a bad position to be honoring someone who the city has just convicted of a crime.”‘

‘Virginia Beach General District Court Judge Teresa McCrimmon gave Smith a 90-day suspended jail term at a hearing Thursday and fined him $350.’

‘It was the third time in 12 years that he was charged with drunken driving. The first charge was dismissed. He was acquitted on the second.’

‘”(Last season) just proved that I could compete at this level,” Jackson said. “I’ve had some success at every level that I’ve been in, and to come in last year and have some success like I did, it just let me know that I could compete here and that I belong here.”‘
