‘”I think we certainly had more opportunities this week,” Evans said. “I think Turk [Schonert, the Bills’ offensive coordinator] wanted to try to make a point to get me the ball at times. We didn’t do it to where we had to force things. We kind of stayed in rhythm, made some big plays, threw the ball down the field a little bit.”‘

‘”Huge plays he made in the game,” coach Dick Jauron said of McKelvin. “We’re obviously thrilled with the way he played today and the way he’s come along.”‘

‘”I always try to be confident,” Edwards said. “Even when I’m not, I try to act like I am. As a quarterback, you have to act that way.”‘

‘Coaching: A- Still playing hard for Jauron. Team played with an edge. Play calling was more aggressive. But why have Edwards in with five minutes left?’

‘Still, the Bills were desperate for a victory, and they got one against a sorry Kansas City club that fell to 1-10 on the season.’

‘On a day when 85 points were scored, fourth-most ever in a Bills game, it’s pretty hard to pick just one, but here goes: Marshawn Lynch’s 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Chiefs scored on their first possession, and the Bills marched to a fourth-and-goal at the 1 on their opening drive. Dick Jauron decided to be aggressive and go for the TD, and it paid off. It set a tone for the day and let everyone know the Bills were ready for a shootout if need be. Turned out they were.’

‘Why didn’t the Bills try this players-only meeting thing a few weeks ago when the wheels first began wobbling? They brought a 5-5 record to Kansas City, and while they haven’t been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, it’s no secret their chances are not good.’

‘Coaching (B)- Turk Schonert decided to call the offense from upstairs in the press box and he had quite a view as the Bills produced the second-highest point total in team history. Schonert showed good balance early in the game, and he allowed Edwards to throw downfield more than he had recently and it paid off. Perry Fewell has some work to do on defense. His guys tackled poorly, gave up a lot of yards and lot of points, but it didn’t matter against the woeful Chiefs. Dick Jauron’s seat cooled off just a bit, but the bottom line is his team beat a very bad Kansas City club. There is a long road ahead of the Bills.’

‘Playoffs? Maybe. But the fickle nature of fans – insisting that Trent Edwards needed to see the bench – is contrary to the team’s master plan. Edwards, Evans and Lynch are the future of this franchise, at least on offense. Other pieces might come and go, but if the Bills are to rise again it’ll be because those three have a long and prosperous run.’

‘The Good: Lots to choose from, and it’s been a bit since we could say that.’

‘Any giddiness needs to be tempered by the understanding that the Chiefs, who gave up the most points in franchise history, are a young team, riddled by injuries and deeply in transition. But they had been keenly competitive in their previous four games and the Bills entered the game as slim three-point betting favourites. Buffalo, with 3-8 San Francisco up next at Ralph Wilson Stadium, should have no problem keeping this victory in perspective.’

‘McKelvin has primarily played as a fill-in on defense, getting the starting call against Kansas City in place of injured Jabari Greer. “I felt like I was ready to go in, but I knew I had to wait my turn,” said McKelvin, the first cornerback taken in the draft. “I had two guys (Greer and Terrence McGee) in front of me. They’ve been here. They’ve been in the league for five or six years, so they know how to play. I was just learning from them.”‘

‘”Leodis has really given us outstanding field position, which translates into points,” Jauron said. “He showed his running skills that we’re all aware of. We’re obviously thrilled with the way he’s played and the way he’s come along.”‘

‘A huge high-five for Duke Preston, who showed something we haven’t seen out of a Bills lineman in a while, standing up for Lynch after a questionably-dubious hit from Kansas City safety Bernard Pollard. That moment was also scary for Bills fans, as Lynch ended up getting checked out by trainers on the bench on the bench, favoring his left arm.’
