Bills SS Whitner returns to practice
‘Coach Dick Jauron said he’ll have a better idea of Whitner’s status after the team practices in pads on Thursday. Whitner missed a 54-31 win at Kansas City last weekend, and has been in action for only two quarters over the past three games since separating his right shoulder in a 26-17 loss to the New York Jets on Nov. 2.’
Spikes back in Buffalo
‘”People respect you when you play (expletive) to the wall all the time,” Spikes said.’
Bills and young patients light up the night
‘Bills offensive lineman Brad Butler, defensive end Ryan Neill and kicker Rian Lindell helped the children and their families construct their gingerbread houses before making their way outside to what looked like a scene from a classic holiday movie.’

Breaking Down Buffalo
‘The dominating win after a month of frustration re-energized a Buffalo team that must keep winning if they want to stay alive in a very tight AFC race for post-season play. Meanwhile, a loss by the 49ers would help increase Arizona’s chances of wrapping up the NFC West Division, something San Francisco would rather see the Cardinals earn on their own.’
Bills add receiver to practice squad
‘Jefferson (6’1″ 206) is a former undrafted free agent of the Dallas Cowboys and spent the 2007 season on the club’s practice squad.’

Big play by Bills’ Evans meant more than big yardage
‘His 51-yard bomb to Lee Evans with about three minutes remaining in the first half was his best throw of the afternoon, with every other one tied for second. It was a bigger throw than the yardage indicated, as the risky play showed that Edwards was finally willing to get back on the horse and defy the invisible force field that has recently kept him from throwing past the line of scrimmage.’
Four Bills among Hall of Fame semifinalists
‘Retired players Bruce Smith, Andre Reed and Steve Tasker are among the modern-era semifinalists announced Tuesday.’
Signed, sealed, delivered
‘The AFL then had a little-known technical rule mandating that if an injured player were officially placed on his team’s injured list 24 hours or closer to a weekend game, then that player would be exposed to a waiver claim until 24 hours after the game. Sid Gillman badly needed the extra roster slot for San Diego’s upcoming game, so he took the risk of placing Kemp on waivers over the weekend. Gillman reasoned that the rule was so arcane and furthermore had never been used before, and that no one would be alert enough to claim Kemp. He was wrong.’
Reality check puts playoffs out of reach
‘The Bills’ biggest problem, other than how they’ve played and coached, is that the teams ahead of them in the standings don’t face each other enough times to give the Bills much assistance. They’ll need help from weak teams in the other conference just to make it interesting.’
Bruce Smith among semifinalists for Hall of Fame
‘Smith, who went to the Super Bowl four years in a row as a member of the Buffalo Bills, is among four first-year eligible players on the semifinal list. The others are defensive tackle John Randle, tight end Shannon Sharpe and defensive back Rod Woodson.’
Media Day: Bills inching forward
‘Almost everything about the remainder of the Bills’ 2008 season is “must-win” if the team wants to guarantee entry into the post-season, a fact reinforced with some statistics WGR has obtained from the NFL.’
Bruce Smith, Rod Woodson among Hall semifinalists
‘The list also includes three people in the contributor category: former commissioner Paul Tagliabue; Buffalo owner Ralph Wilson and Art Modell, former owner of the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens.’
