‘The defense didn’t have a good day tackling, but the Jets still averaged under 4.0 yards per carry. The sacks weren’t there, nor was the pressure, but let’s face it: That game could’ve been brutal.’

Bills Defense Wears Down In Loss
‘Trent Edwards made two crucial turnovers in the first quarter with a fumble and a 91 yard interception return for a touchdown. The two turnovers gave the Jets 10 of their 13 first quarter points. He’s got to feel the blitz on the play that resulted in the early fumble. He did a nice job in play action on the opening 42 yard screen pass. He showed strength in getting away from a defender to throw a pass that resulted in a first down pass interference penalty. He seemed to be unsteady in the pocket and threw a second interception for good measure late. He had a career high 289 yards but that is because they were playing from behind. Grade F: He wanted to get the bad taste out of his mouth from the Miami game but now he’ll need plenty of mouthwash.’
Jets Top Bills 26-17
‘Quarterback Trent Edwards turned the ball over three times over the course of the game, once on a fumble and twice on interceptions that took away valuable opportunities for Buffalo. The worst of the three occurred at the end of the first quarter, when Jets safety Abram Elam read Edwards’ eyes and returned an interception 92 yards for the touchdown.’
Jets Wear Down Bills 26-17
‘Buffalo got off to a fast start but the Jets took control of the game by making only a few mistakes and playing a mentally superior game as they wore down the Bills to gain the victory. The Bills turned the ball over twice in the first quarter including giving up a defensive score of their own. They failed on a few gambles as well as not much went their way just like last week in Miami.’
NY Jets 26, Buffalo 17
‘Trent Edwards was picked off twice and threw for 289 yards while completing 24-of-35 passes with a touchdown for Buffalo, which has lost two in a row — both within the division. The Bills lost to Miami last week and will try to avoid an 0-3 start within the AFC East next week when they visit New England.’
Jets defense shuts down bumbling Bills
‘Buffalo (5-3) has lost three of four and lost all the momentum it had generated following a 4-0 start.’
Bills offense struggles in critical loss to Jets
‘Turk Schonert’s unit went 1-for-4 in the red zone and committed two turnovers, one inside their own 10-yard line and one that was returned for a score. The Bills running game was completely shut down by New York’s fourth-ranked run defense gaining just 30 yards on 17 carries. Trent Edwards finished the game 24-34 for 289 yards a touchdown and an interception.’
With both teams tough on run, turnovers may make difference
‘Bills, 23-19.’
Favre, Jets an inviting opponent
‘”My wife asked me that when he got traded over there,” said Williams, a Bills defensive tackle. “I told her, ‘No, it’s just another game.’ I mean, no matter who’s playing quarterback for them, it’s a division game. He definitely makes it exciting for the fans, more so than the players.”‘
Jets have provided some of Buffalo’s best memories
‘”We were at the Holiday Inn that Saturday night having a few drinks with a few of the Jets players,” Edgerson recalled this week. “And Namath said to me, ‘You better go home and get some rest because I’m going to be throwing at you all day.’ And I said, ‘You do and I’m gonna pick off every other one you throw.'”‘
The Favre factor
‘"Believe me, I’m well aware of what is expected of me and how important it is to take care of the ball," he said. "I’ve played a long time. … I know statistically speaking, if you turn the ball over more than your opponent, you lose. That’s two times in three weeks we’ve won. Can you make a living doing that? Every coach, any statistician would tell you no. I don’t plan on doing that."’
Buffalo Bills shake off recent losses
‘"I don’t think we’ve lost momentum," said quarterback Trent Edwards despite the fact that his team has lost two of its last three after a red-hot 4-0 start. "I really think this is just the way the season goes sometimes. You have your highs and you have your lows."’
Bills’ rookie wide receiver Hardy must shed slow start
‘Hardy isn’t the only rookie who needs to stop playing like a deer-in-headlights. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the Bills first-round pick, also has to start contributing more.’
Buffalo Bills Scouting Report
‘Bring the heat: For all his greatness, Favre is prone to mistakes, and the Bills need to force him into bad decisions.’
Buffalo Bills’ Bruuuce a lock for Hall but Tasker and Ralph are much tougher calls
‘Of the 129 nominees announced last week, 12 have ties to the Bills: linebacker Cornelius Bennett, running back Larry Centers, center Kent Hull, coach Chuck Knox, wide receiver Andre Reed, defensive end Bruce Smith, nose tackle Fred Smerlas, LB Chris Spielman, defensive end Art Still, linebacker Darryl Talley, special teams specialist Steve Tasker and owner Ralph Wilson.’
