‘Reyes, nursing a shoulder injury, and Fowler, thigh, are both listed as questionable and were hurt in a 20-17 loss at Detroit last weekend.’

New England (4-1) at Buffalo (2-4)
‘Buffalo has 11 giveaways in three losses, and has not turned the ball over in any of its three wins.’
Bills sign LB Harrison to practice squad
‘A three-year starter at Eastern Michigan, Harrison was released by the Denver Broncos in August. He was originally signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2005 before being released by the Browns in training camp.’
Thomas laments one that got away
‘"The play is constantly in my head," said the 29-year-old Thomas, a free-agent pickup during the offseason. "If you miss a play or miss a tackle, I have to think about that game all the way until the next game."’

Hand gets shot with the Bills
‘"I felt like I worked out really well and the situation was good," said Hand, who was signed to the Bills practice squad on Oct. 10. "Now you’ve just got to try to get better, learn all the stuff that (line) Coach (Jim) McNally’s teaching and work on technique. I’m trying to do good enough so they’ll want to keep me, I can go through camp and I can earn a spot next year."’
School Days
‘In his Buffalo Bills Journal this week, photojournalist Bob Gosney asked the guys to look back on their school days and identify their favorite subject.’
Bills struggle in the trenches (Part II)
‘The mobile Losman has already been sacked 19 times this year, which is mostly a direct indictment on poor line play up front. While Losman has brought some of those sacks on himself, plenty of them have been due to awful blocking. If Losman wasn’t such a mobile QB, his sack total might have already hit 30. In short, unless the line jells quickly, Buffalo will keep losing and Losman will continue running for his life.’
Marinelli got away with a dubious call
‘The Bills supposedly satisfied themselves that Hargrove isn’t a malcontent, but he’s an odd acquisition for a team that preaches character in its players.’
Bills blow gasket in Motor City
‘Detroit manhandled Buffalo’s offensive line, sacking Losman a total of five times. Bills left tackle Mike Gandy was treated like a rag doll and gave up each of Hall’s sacks. The Lions entered the game ranked last in the league in sacks, and had just one in its previous four games. Losman has a tendency to hold the ball and wait for players to come open before safely opting to throw the ball away. He certainly paid the price for it against Detroit, and will have to learn quickly from it this Sunday, against a better Patriots team than the one he faced in Week 1.’
Bills Determined to Fix Run Defense
‘"We just have to be responsible in our gap fits and hold one another accountable," said Chris Kelsay. "It’s an 11-man defense and if one guy is out of his gap or out of his place it can hurt the entire unit and it’s shown up the past few games. It’s something we have to get corrected."’
Inside slant
‘It all starts with stopping the run. Buffalo ranked 29th last season, and after a promising first month this year is starting to slip fast.’
Strategy and personnel
‘No amount of rationalizing can change the fact that this was a major setback for Dick Jauron, whose team couldn’t match the Lions’ emotion, protect Losman, or do anything defensively. To be outgained by nearly 200 yards at halftime and trail 12-3 in first downs was mystifying.’
Notes, quotes
‘The teacher got the better of the student in Sunday’s matchup of offensive coordinators. Buffalo’s Steve Fairchild played in college and coached in the NFL under Detroit’s Mike Martz. In the first half, the Lions outgained Buffalo 253-57 and Buffalo was 0-for-6 on third down.’
