‘The fair catch signal actually wasn’t the call on the play. The referee called “Interference with opportunity to catch,” a 15-yard penalty. It’s in Rule 10, Section 1, Article 4, under Supplemental Notes: “A receiver running toward a kick in flight has the right of way and opponents must get out of his path to the ball. Otherwise, it is interference irrespective of any contact or catch or whether any signal is given or not.” The problem is the Vikings’ Jason Whittle, in our view, wasn’t making a good attempt to catch the ball.’
