‘On what the decision was based on to start Kelly: Age… seniority. There’s no need to read anything else into it really. I think they’ll both get a good deal of playing time. You know how that is. It depends on how the game goes. We’re excited about playing.’

Dick Jauron Night Practice
Camp is quieter for Bills kickers
‘”If all you gave us to do was kick field goals, we’d show up on August 25,” Lindell said. “It’d be great to be out there, kicking field goals all day long and being on the field. But after a little while my leg would fall off. You’ve got be smart about it.”‘
No surprises
‘Ellison was drafted in the sixth round (178th overall) of April’s NFL Draft. He comes into a new defensive scheme in Buffalo, coordinator Perry Fewell’s version of the Tampa-2. None of Ellison’s teammates have played in Fewell’s system, something that may be an advantage for rookies. “I think it’s going to help me some,” Ellison said of all players learning the scheme together. “I’m not coming into a system where guys have been playing it for four or five years straight."’
Holcomb Will Start; Spikes Out Against Panthers
‘The Bills aren’t sure if safety Donte Whitner will play as well. Safety Coy Wire and defensive lineman Lauvale Sape are questionable for Saturday night. Both players sat out of Thursday night’s practice with back injuries.’
Bills QB Holcomb to start Saturday based on seniority
‘Without providing a deadline for making a final decision, Jauron said the team would use the first two preseason games as a sort of final exam for both players. “Obviously, we’ve pointed all the time toward full-contact scrimmage and this is it,” Jauron said. “This is almost the only chance you get to do it with a quarterback. … So here we go.”‘
Holcomb Named Starting QB for Preseason Opener
‘”He’ll probably play a good deal of the first (quarter) and part of the second (quarter) then J.P. (Losman) will come in,” said Jauron. “We’ll probably just switch it the next week.”‘
Plenty bears watching in Bills’ opener
‘The Bills are clearly a team in transition with six new starters guaranteed and that doesn’t include QB or outside linebacker Angelo Crowell who played so well in Takeo Spikes’ injured absence last year that he retained the job with Spikes’ return knocking former starter Jeff Posey off the roster. Four of those new starters are locked: center Melvin Fowler, guard Tutan Reyes, tight end Robert Royal and defensive tackle Larry Tripplett. But two others are being contested and bear watching on Saturday.’
