Woodbury’s NFL Europe Diary
‘Before I even got here, I heard Cologne had some of the best facilities, and it is true. We have a nice locker room, a big weight room, and the stadium is off the chain. It’s decked out in red and white for us, and every seat in the stadium is a good seat, so hopefully we’ll fill it up. Even our uniforms are the best.’
Free agent Pickett picks Packers
‘Buffalo will host two more free agents today, left tackle Jason Fabini of the New York Jets and Packers third-string quarterback Craig Nall.’
Bills pay now for gambling on Losman
‘Right now the Bills have more holes than they have fingers, some of it due to the old regime’s decision to bring Losman on board.’
Bills take no risk, make no gain at quarterback position
‘Buffalo’s brass is much higher on the current 1-2 QB punch of J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb than some of us. There would’ve been risks in adding Culpepper or Brees, but there also would have been a potential upside and cause for optimism.’
Maybe Bills will draft another QB
‘Sure, it takes convoluted logic to get to the point where Leinart is available at the eighth pick. But break it down and it appears he or Cutler likely will be there. The question is will the Bills be interested?’
Q&A with NFL Europe QB Tory Woodbury
‘Q: The Bills have a young team, do you think it is on the right way to the playoffs?
A: Oh yes, I think we had a very talented team last year. I know last year was a disappointing season even though I didn’t play. We were falling down in very close games. But I’m sure that Mr. Marv Levy and Mr. Ralph Wilson put together the right people up stairs.’
Vincent re-elected president of NFLPA
‘Buffalo defensive back Troy Vincent was re-elected Wednesday as president of the NFL Players Union.’
Bills Lose Battle To Sign DT Ryan Pickett
‘Despite signing former Colts’ DT Larry Tripplett, the Bills still have a large void to fill at nose tackle following the release of Pro-Bowler Sam Adams. The Bills also lost DT Justin Bannan, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent. This makes the push to draft Oregon DT Haloti Ngata that much stronger for Buffalo.’
Packers win recruiting battle for DT Pickett
‘Terms of the agreement weren’t available. Pickett was visiting the Bills but had stayed in touch with the Rams, hoping to get an offer that would bring him back. The Packers talked Pickett into his first visit over the weekend and there was some thought he might not have totally liked his visit. Those thoughts were proved wrong when the Packers stepped up and gave him a deal. Pickett will replace Grady Jackson as the run-stopping defensive tackle in the team’s 4-3 scheme.’
Wells being wooed by Bills and Packers
‘Wells, who had started 26 straight games under coach Dennis Green, played in just nine games in 2005 at left guard before fracturing and dislocating his left ankle against Detroit. “I don’t know what the Cardinals are thinking right now,” Wells said by phone from Buffalo. “They’ve been good to me. We’ll see how it plays out.” Wells said the trips to Buffalo and Green Bay were the only ones planned.’
Bills make a charge after Pickett
‘Pickett was a first-round draft pick in 2001 but he’s only 26. He’s a 6-foot-2, 315-pounder who played nose tackle in the Rams’ four-man defensive front. That’s exactly the role in which the Bills would use him. The Bills’ new defensive line coach, Bill Kollar, coached Pickett the past five years in St. Louis.’
Bills re-sign long-snapper
‘Schneck, who signed with Buffalo before the start of last season after spending six seasons in Pittsburgh, was perfect on 132 snap opportunities and helped punter Brian Moorman earn his first Pro Bowl berth. Schneck also played in the Pro Bowl.’
