Call waiting
‘If inducted, Thomas would become the seventh Bill in the Hall, joining O.J. Simpson, Billy Shaw, Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, Joe DeLamielleure and James Lofton.’
Talented linemen aren’t lighting up the draft marquee
‘Most of the new hires are in the range of $1.5 million to $1.8 million. Jauron was making an average of about $2 million, probably a tad more, when he was head coach of the Bears. The guess here is he’s in the $1.5 million to $1.8 million range with the Bills.’
Bills tackling an off-season full of difficult decisions
‘”The Bills have gone through a period of time where they had cap problems and they’ve been resolved by my predecessor, which is a good thing on his part,” Levy said of Donahoe. “There are some good things (in place), but we have to identify what we need to get better.”‘
Bears protect Babich with promotion
‘In an effort to discourage overtures from other teams, the Bears on Friday promoted linebackers coach Bob Babich to assistant head coach/linebackers. The move came after the Buffalo Bills requested permission to speak with Babich about the defensive coordinator position under their new head coach Dick Jauron, who coached the Bears from 1999-2003.’
Bills Will Replace Wyche As QB’s Coach
‘Head coach Dick Jauron is still assembling his staff, but sources tell us the Bills are likely to retain at least three other offensive assistants. Offensive Line Coach Jim McNally is expected to return for another season along with Running Backs Coach Eric Studesville and Wide Receivers Coach Tyke Tolbert. The announcement may come in the next day or two.’
Bills talk to two about running defense
‘Fewell, 43, previously worked with Bills head coach Dick Jauron in Jacksonville in 1998. Jauron was defensive coordinator for the Jaguars that year, while Fewell was in his first year in the NFL as defensive backs coach. Fewell spent five seasons working in Jacksonville under head coach Tom Coughlin, then moved to St. Louis as defensive backs coach in 2003 and 2004. Fewell served under defensive coordinator Lovie Smith in St. Louis, then moved to Chicago when Smith got the Bears head coaching job.’
Jauron interviews Bears assistant
‘Former Bears coach Dick Jauron might lure away a member of the current coaching staff, as the Buffalo Bills interviewed Perry Fewell for their defensive coordinator position Friday.’
Clements to direct QBs
‘The Green Bay Packers are set to hire former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Tom Clements as their quarterbacks coach.’
Texans do best to woo Sherman
‘Sherman also was pursued by teams that wanted to hire him as their offensive coordinator. He turned down the Bills and Jets. The Texans hope Kubiak can do what the Jets and Bills couldn’t – convince Sherman to coach again rather than sit out the 2006 season.’
Wyche Out, Lynn Might Be In
‘NFL sources have confirmed for WGR Sportsradio 550 Johnnie Lynn is in town interviewing for the Bills defensive coordinators spot. Lynn has been the Ravens secondary coach the past two seasons.’
It feels like home for Fairchild
‘”I’m very excited,” Fairchild said Thursday from his home in St. Louis. “I think the Bills are very, very close to having an outstanding team. I think the organization is first class. And there is nobody more impressive to me than Dick Jauron.”‘
Schneck off to Pro Bowl in a snap
‘The AFC did not have anyone on its roster of stars capable of handling the long-snapping duties, and Schneck was recognized for his excellence.’
ES-M grad is in the business of running Bills’ business
‘"One thing we’ve tried to do is extend our reach and regionalize our product," he said during a telephone conversation. "You don’t have to look any farther than our training camp at St. John Fisher College (in Pittsford). That’s not only captured the Rochester market, but so many outlying areas, too. And that translates into fans sampling the experience here at Ralph Wilson Stadium."’
