Donahoe’s Bills collapse in Miami
‘There’s so much blame to go around, you hardly know where to start.’
Buffalo collapse leads to Miami victory
‘For the Bills, it’s another loss and it means they’re 4-8. It’s another sign of ineptitude in the era of Bills general manager Tom Donahoe. Coach Mike Mularkey proved once again that he’s not fit to be a head coach in the NFL.’
Chambers of horror
‘Woe is the Bills.’
Moulds is simply forgettable in defeat
‘Bills coach Mike Mularkey said Moulds took himself off the field on some of those series. But Moulds gave the impression that he was not on the sideline by choice. “It’s their decision, so I have to live with it,” said Moulds, who hadn’t been held without a catch since Nov. 30, 1997 against the New York Jets. “They want to do different things, let them do what they want to do. I don’t care really. I’m just going to play when I get called. That’s all I do.”‘
Clements a snapshot of Bills’ futility
‘Clements is only part of the problem. The safeties, Milloy and Vincent, are old. The Bills can’t get a reliable pass rush with their front four, especially on the road. Rosenfels threw 37 passes in less than a half and wasn’t sacked.’
Meltdown puzzles players
‘”We’ve lost ballgames around here in the last couple of years at the end of games,” Fletcher said. “We play well for 58 minutes, 54 minutes against New England. We played well against Carolina for 57 minutes. We played this ball game for 57 minutes. It’s not a 57-minute ball game. It’s 60-minute, four-quarter football games. No matter what level, you have to play 60 minutes.”‘
Scoring moot points
‘Come in off the ledge. It’s only a game.’
Grading the Bills
‘Losman had a sensational first half but only had 54 yards in second half. Interception on the goal line turned out to be killer.’
Grading the Dolphins
‘Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. It was dismal for three quarters. But give Dolphins credit for not giving up.’
Colossal collapse is quite a stunner
‘”Everybody kept preaching, ‘It’s not over; we have to keep fighting,’ especially the veterans who have been in this situation before,” Losman said. “They were telling us, ‘Don’t be satisfied’ at halftime. That was the speech. ‘Don’t be satisfied, put a nail in the coffin,’ all the cliches we use. It just didn’t work today.”‘
You can’t explain this debacle
‘What could Donahoe possibly say to his boss that would coherently explain what took place at Dolphins Stadium on Sunday afternoon?’
Dolphins took it to Clements, and tactic paid off
‘”I wasn’t out (of the game) the last play,” Clements said. “The previous play, he (Chambers) lined up to the right side and motioned back. The next play was a no-huddle, and he slid out to the left when I was already on the right side (so I stayed put). I’ll go up against anybody. Don’t try to play me like it was the last play and where were you? I go 100 percent. It’s not like the last play I was scared to go up against him. I’ve been going up against him since I’ve been in this league. Don’t ask me no more questions.”‘
Bills two-minute read
‘Bills CB Nate Clements: Clements is having a bad year, there’s no way around it. Yes, he makes some nice plays every game, but lately he’s making bad plays that more than offset the good ones. Someone is going to grossly overpay for his services next year when he’s a free agent.’
Buffalo Bills report card
‘Coaching: Can you imagine what Ralph Wilson was thinking when he was flying home to Detroit on Sunday night? Mike Mularkey is the highest-paid coach in the Bills’ history. Ralph cannot be happy. The offensive play-calling was horrible in the second half. Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray never adjusted to Rosenfels, nor did he have an answer for Chambers. Rather than sending Milloy on fruitless blitzes, why not have him cover somebody? F-‘
