‘The cuts leave Buffalo with a 70-player roster, including rookie tight end Kevin Everett and cornerback Kevin Thomas, who are on the physically unable-to-perform list. NFL teams must pare their rosters to 65 by Tuesday and get down to the regular-season maximum of 53 by Saturday, a day after the Bills close their preseason hosting Detroit.’

Bills waive seven players
‘The Bills today announced that the team has waived P Steve Baker, WR Tony Brown, RB ReShard Lee, DB Rob Lee, DE Uyi Osunde, LB Daryl Towns, and QB Tory Woodbury.’
The Bills Get The Jump On Cut Day
‘Lee is no surprise as he’s not been impressive since being signed away from Dallas. The emergence of 7th round pick Lionel Gates and the steady play of Shaud Williams sealed Lee’s fate. It was thought Woodbury could challenege Shane Matthews for the number three QB slot and become a “slash” type player, but Woodbury was too eratic in camp.’
Year of the quarterback
‘In the last 10 NFL seasons, a quarterback began his second year as the full-time starter for his team 12 times. Aside from Philadelphia’s Donovan McNabb, who started six games in 1999, they all saw little or no time as rookies. Seven of those young QBs led their team to a record of .500 or better. Five of the 12 made the playoffs.’
Preston emerges in long snap judgment
‘The obvious advantage of having Preston do the job is it saves a spot on the roster. Dorenbos does not play another position. However, Dorenbos has proved he’s very good at the job.’
Super-sized Bills are worried, too
‘”When I heard about it, it ran chills through my body,” Bills offensive guard Chris Villarrial said of Herrion’s death. “It makes you think what is important. They’ve been saying the weight issue for a while now, but until we find out the results, I guess we won’t know. But when anything like this happens, like Korey Stringer (four years ago), it makes you take two steps back and ask, ‘Is this all worth it?’ It’s a tragedy.”‘
