Henry deserved better from Bills

‘True, his relationship with the team likely had deteriorated beyond repair after he lost the starting running back job last season – but I can’t help wishing that the team had found a way to use both Henry and the explosive Willis McGahee at the same time. Losman growing at his own beat

‘"I should know after about Week 3 or 4. I’m going to look back and either go, ‘This football thing is going to happen for me.’ Or I’m going to look back and say, ‘Man, this is going to be really tough.’ But until I know, this little waiting period is stressful."’

How Will the Bills’ Offense Be Different?

‘"We can do so many things now," Moulds said. "We can put guys in the backfield, we can put Roscoe in the backfield, you can put Lee back there, you can use those guys’ speed and mix it up a little bit. I think it’s going to be tough for guys to come in and throw coverage and try to do different things and try to take one guy away. It’s going to be more diverse because if they do that we’re going to get Roscoe down the seam, going to get Lee down the seam for a touchdown. Bills need Losman to make plays

‘Offensive coordinator Tom Clements will change the passing game that he had for immobile QB Drew Bledsoe to a lot more roll outs and bootlegs, where Losman can challenge the defensive perimeter. It will also also simplify his reads because he will only really have to look at half the field. Look for Buffalo to also utilize a considerable amount of QB draw plays, where Losman has the opportunity to tuck the ball and run if he doesn’t see something open.’

Matthews adapting to new role

‘"I was planning on retiring when Buffalo called because they had a lot of injuries at quarterback," he said. "I ended up playing just about the entire second half of that exhibition game even though I didn’t know the system at all. It was a lot of fun. I got to play a little bit. I had a blast." Matthews knows his role when he returns this year. He’ll be the No. 3 quarterback behind J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb. "My role is to mentor J.P.," he said. "That’s it. I’m always making suggestions anyway. At meetings, I’m always drawing up plays. Sometimes they try them and sometimes they get thrown in the garbage can."’

Backup RB Battle Could Be Tight Race

‘The likely front-runner for the job is RaShard Lee, who signed with the Bills on May 16 as an unrestricted free agent after spending the last two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas released him less than two weeks earlier. In his short time with the team, Lee has impressed Bills head coach Mike Mularkey, who said Lee made the most of his opportunity at some Organized Team Activies when both Henry and McGahee were missing.’
