Bills wanted the eight seasons of experience that Kelly Holcomb, set free by the Browns, could offer to help prop up Losman as a first-year starter.
‘Prioleau’s signing reunites him with Redskins assistant coaches Gregg Williams and Steve Jackson, who both coached him in Buffalo. Prioleau will compete with starters Sean Taylor and Matt Bowen for playing time.’
‘The Bills will open the preseason at Indianapolis and will host Green Bay in the second week of the preseason. Buffalo will then travel to Chicago before closing out the preseason at home vs. Detroit.’
‘It will be the first time the Packers and Bills have met in the preseason since 1997, when the two teams played in Toronto.’
‘Prioleau spent the past four seasons with Buffalo and last year finished with 38 tackles and one fumble recovery in 16 games.’
‘During his time in Buffalo, he played for Redskins assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams and safeties coach Steve Jackson.’
‘The dates and times of the games have not yet been announced.’
‘While she admits her sister is a fan of her Polish-style carrot cake with poppy seeds, and she has spent the winter experimenting with chili, she is more eager to talk about the Bills than food. She has high hopes for quarterback J.P. Losman. "He’s not afraid to hang on to the ball when he does have it," said Opalka, who works at a downtown insurance company. "I’m keeping my fingers crossed."’
‘Kyle Achterhoff, offensive coordinator at Northwestern College, will interview today and Wednesday, while Paul McCord, special assistant coach for the Buffalo Bills, will be in town Wednesday and Thursday.’
‘It appears the Bills also might eventually release Coy Wire, another of their backup safeties. An escalator in his contract that went into effect this year brings his base salary from $455,000 to $1.43 million, according to union records. His release would save $975,000.’
‘Prioleau started 24 games over three years for Buffalo including all 16 games in 2002. The six year veteran began his career in San Fransico.’
‘Prioleau’s agent, Brian Mackler, said Buffalo offered his client a new three-year deal, which included restructuring the final year of his current contract. But Prioleau turned it down, hoping to find a better opportunity with another team. Mackler described the Bills’ offer as fair, but Prioleau was willing to explore his options after being relegated to mostly special teams last season. After starting a career-high 16 games with Buffalo in 2002, Prioleau had only two starts last season.’
‘In his career, Prioleau has only recorded one interception in 80 games.’
‘”Ryan is a versatile player who does a lot of good things offensively for us,” Bills head coach Mike Mularkey said. “He is not only a tight end, but also welcomes his playing time as a fullback. He is an important asset on special teams as well, and we are excited to have him on this team and look forward to his contributions.”‘
