Fan Q & A With Nate Clements
Clements: I'm definitely confident in my abilities to go out there and shut down receivers and I get more and more confidence each year.
Brown happy in Buffalo
‘”Travis Brown came in and had a good scrimmage,” head coach Gregg Williams said. “As we go through this preseason, a big thing we will be looking at will be Travis getting (more) reps. We got him in our camp last year I think two days before the last preseason game and then we saw him a lot in practiced during the year, but we didn’t see him in a lot of game reps. … We want to see a lot of work out of him in the preseason.”‘
Where Are They Now: Darryl Talley
Where Is He Now: During the early ’90s, the Bills had one of the strongest chains in the NFL, partly because of linebacker Darryl Talley. Talley never missed a game during his 12-year career with the Bills.
Two Minute DrillÖ With Ruben Brown
Brown says Bryson is the fastest player on the team
Sullivan staking his claim at guard
‘Not only has Sullivan looked good, it may be very difficult for Ostroski or anybody else to take the job away from him.’
John Butler will battle to the end
‘Only 15 percent survive battles with lung cancer.’
Training camp
‘Rookie WR Josh Reed has been one of the big stories in camp. It seems he makes a spectacular catch every day.’
Kitna will start against Bills
‘Jon Kitna will get the start and will be followed in playing order by Gus Frerotte, Akili Smith and Scott Covington. "Each one of them will probably play a quarter,” LeBeau said.’
Bills Fine-Tune For Friday's Preseason Game
With the first preseason game of the year on Friday, the Buffalo Bills held a single session workout on Tuesday, in which the team spent the majority of the practice fine-tuning their offensive and defensive packages.
Henry says he won’t back off
‘Coach Gregg Williams and offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride aren’t worried about bruised egos, just who wants to emerge as the workhorse back in the club’s old-is-new-again power attack, one capable of 20 to 25 carries a game. “We’re going to let them compete and see who emerges,” Gilbride said.’
A passing performance
‘There are a number of positions where the Bills are dangerously lacking in depth, but quarterback is certainly an exception. Drew Bledsoe is a bona fide star, Alex Van Pelt is a capable backup who has started 11 NFL games, and then there’s Brown, whom Gilbride and coach Gregg Williams think has a bright future despite his third-string status.’
Bills notebook
‘This year, quarterback Drew Bledsoe has the green light to change any play that Kevin Gilbride sends into the game. "Kevin really allows us a lot of flexibility. If we see something we want to attack and we’re in a poor play and there’s something better, we can get to it," Bledsoe said after practice on Tuesday.’
Fan of the day, upcoming schedule
‘"Doug Flutie was my favorite. To me, he really got the shaft. They seemed to win every game he filled in."’
